The book and mask
The book is like a folder. The left side has a pocket that holds 10 free beautifully designed sheet masks. The right side has a book of recipes. First two pages teach you how to prep your face for the mask. Next two pages has different types of masks and page numbers. You pick which one you want to try and then go to the page number for the recipe. The recipes are easy to follow and healthy for your skin. It also gives you a list of the benefits for doing that particular mask. The book and mask selections are super cute! I love the recipes because there are no chemical! Everything you can find at the supermarket or in your home.
I'm trying out what's called the Papa-Yaaasss with papaya, milk, and raw honey! The benefits? Healing, Plumbing, Hydrating, Smoothing, Brightening.

This wonderful little book comes with 38 recipes for all different skin types and the majority of these masks are so safe that they are edible! They use simple wholesome ingredients like chia seeds, yogurt, honey, oatmeal, and chocolate. As a teen, I had no money to spend on masks but my mother and I always made our own. The neighbors had walnut and avocado trees while we had orange, apricot and pear trees in our yard. You would be surprised what you can do with some simple ingredients
REVIEWThis wonderful little book comes with 38 recipes for all different skin types and the majority of these masks are so safe that they are edible! You would be surprised what you can do with some simple ingredients. One maks we always made was just plain mashed avocado mixed with olive oil since we had really dry skin. You just add the oil until you get a thin consistency and apply to your skin, leave on 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Your skin will be super hydrated!
This book comes with 8 reusable sheets to keep your mask in place. Just be sure to hand wash and lay flat to dry and you can get several uses from each one. They are decorated with charming illustrations of the different ingredients you can use. This would make a nice gift to include with a basket full of ingredients.

I know a book about making your own face masks may be something you never thought I'd review, but I am a huge skincare geek. Besides reading, makeup and skincare are my two biggest interests. For the past few years I have been committed to making my routine more natural and simpler.(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. Make Your Own Beauty Masks is perfect for anyone who wants to introduce more natural ingredients into your beauty routine. It's a total win. I've been thinking a lot about sustainability and realizing that my sheet masks just produce a lot of waste. Don't get me wrong. I love a good mask and reading pairing. Make Your Own Beauty Masks is a way to relax, while also producing less single use trash. With natural ingredients you can easily buy it's simple and fun to use.

I was a concoctions kid. I was perpetually mixing something up, making conditioner cocktails* in the shower and checking out books from the library about how various herbs were used in medicine and beauty throughout history.
You think I'm joking, but no, I was precisely that much of a nerd.
And for a long, long time, I've been meaning to test out more homemade beauty treatments and find some really good ones to work into my rotation. I love a good pampering sesh, and there's something about measuring and mixing and selecting and seeing every stage that makes the whole thing more soothing.
But, of course, meaning to doesn't mean actually doing. I've got a list a mile long of "meaning to." MAKE YOUR OWN BEAUTY MASKS from Macmillan's new DIY imprint, Odd Dot, features more than 3 dozen diy skincare masks, made from things you likely have very easy access to, if they aren't in your pantry or fridge already. The accessibility of the ingredients as well as the ease of the recipes and simplicity of the book's presentation make DIY seemed totally doable. The recipes generally only have three steps (mix, paste on your face, wait and wash), and just as often, only 3 ingredients (some more, some less, but all manageable). There are also sections on how to prep your skin for masking, and what each ingredient does for you, so you can target specific things.
It also comes with 10 cutesy printed sheet masks, which you can use in combo with many of the masks to help keep everything in place while you go about your important business of watching The Office on Netflix for the seventh time. (No judgment here.) (You can also apply straight to your face, no sheet mask needed.)
MAKE YOUR OWN BEAUTY MASKS is exactly the reminder to myself that I need to mask more consistently and satisfy my inner Concoction Kid. The recipes include some of my favorite ingredients for skincare (honey, pumpkin, yogurt, oats) and more I want to try (papaya, turmeric, blueberries, seaweed), and the mask designs are super cute (and could easily be used with serums and other face masks/creams). I've tried a few of the recipes, including this "Let's Go Avo-Coco-Nuts" mask, which tbh, I should have used a sheet mask with, because coconut oil melts on skin contact, DUH MISTY, and it was slip-sliding all over my face and shirt and bathroom floor.
But the recipes are easy to whip together (this took, like, 45 seconds) and adapt (I made a 1/2 batch because I wanted guacamole, so win win), and the overall design of the set is appealing to seasoned maskers and skincare beginners alike. The book itself is removable from the solidly-designed book-box it comes in, so once you're finished with the sheet masks, or if you just need shelf space, you can pop the slim volume right out and recycle the rest!
I know we're heading into Super Commercialized Buy All The Things time of year, and you're probably already seeing gift guides pop up, but if not, consider this us dipping our toes in: This set would be a GREAT gift for the teenaged Concoction Kid in your own life, or for a fun Girls Night In get-together. Definitely one to consider picking up as a gift or a Treat Yo'Self moment to de-stress this holiday season.

The moment I heard about this book and this blog tour, I just knew that I had to get involved! I like indulging in beauty masks when I have enough time to relax at home and kind of have a little spa day for myself. My only issue has been that some of them are made out of less natural ingredients than others. And I mean, if you're buying something in a store that's sitting on the shelf, I guess it's impossible for a lot of the products to be all-natural because they would go bad.
So, I was obviously excited when I heard about this book containing 38 all-natural (and simple) recipes for beauty masks! I got even more excited when I found out that it comes with 10 sheet masks so that I could try the recipes right away without having to worry about where I'm going to find some plain, clean mask sheets. (Thank you, Odd Dot!)
The mask sheets were also super pretty! They weren't plain white ones, but have...

I should start by saying that I did receive this book for free from a giveaway, but I am reviewing it because I want to and getting it for free has not in any way changed my opinion of it. Although, I will say I was really surprised at how quickly it arrived. That aside, let me get to reviewing the actual book. The book is very appealing! The book itself is more of a thin paperback but it and the 10 adorable masks are all contained in a hard cover which is really nice. The mask recipes are detailed. Using symbols and words they list the benefits of using the ingredients on the corner of each page. Also the artwork is really fun and has diverse representation throughout. I have not yet tried any of the masks, but they seem promising! All in all I think this would be a great gift for a tween-ager looking to have a spa night sleepover or for fun kit for anyone looking to try homemade masks.
Have I mentioned the 10 masks are really adorable? You can find a sampling of it's contents here: https://www.odddot.com/make-your-own-...
Luxuriating! Refreshing! Renewing! This book has simple and fun recipes that feature wholesome ingredients you can find in your fridge or pantry. Whether you are dry-skinned, oily, or just want refreshing "me-time," find a recipe that best suits your needs. Mix the ingredients together in a blender or a bowl and apply the mask for ten to twenty minutes. You'll finish with gorgeous, fresh skin! Includes ten sheet masks!
Overall, the book itself is lovely and includes a set of ten dry sheet masks to use along with these recipes. This added bonus makes it a perfect gift for skincare enthusiasts or anyone in your circle in need of a little spa treatment. I will definitely be ordering extra copies for gifts. ★★★★★
